We noticed lately that he squints whenever he reads the time from a wall clock or when he watches TV from a distance. The opthalmologist found out that he is astigmatic and nearsighted.
When the optometrist tried the eyeglasses on him, and he told me he can now read the signages from few meters away, I was about to cry. I pitied him that an early stage, he will be wearing eyeglasses. My eyes and that of Teng still have perfect vision, 20-20. Daddy worn for the first time his reading glasses at the of 55. When my lolo Bitoy reached 100 years old, he can still read newspapers without any spectacles.
But upon reflection, I thought that it's fortunate that the defect has been detected at an early stage. And that access to good quality optical care and products is within reach. And new innovative products are also available whenever he wants to engage in activities where eyesight is a big factor like sports (he likes swimming and martial arts).
I just hope that one day, Auren's eye problem can be corrected.
Well, bonus is, he excels academically. So far, most of his quizzes are perfect. Still, more reasons to thank the Lord, than be sad!
