Art Class S4: The Nude

Session 4 - Acrylic on Canvas (16" x 20")

Coverage: Background, Contouring
Lesson: Basic brush strokes, Contours, Sketching, Color Combinations.
Output: Finished background and Basic Nude Contour
Next steps: Skin tone paint.

I just realized that brown is made up of putting a small amount of black into red, orange, and yellow. And to make a dark brown color, one can add blue. I could have read that in wikis but I am glad that I am taking this art class at home. Face to face interaction with the art teacher is far more entertaining and educational than just reading theories about art.

I tried mixing a dark brown for the above background, but I've put a lot of blue so it turned out quite blackish. Okay na rin! Hehehe!

Oil on Canvas (18" x 14")

Eversince I started home-based art classes, my art-loving kids have been bugging me that they want to paint too. I bought them low-priced illustration boards and a set of poster colors. Since then, they've enjoyed the feel of a brush. But lately, I thought, why deprive them of the actual painting when we actually can afford to buy them the professional stuff. Who knows... they will be the future national artists of the Philippines. Seriously, these opportunities were not available when I was a kid, hence I promised myself that I should not make these available to my kids.

So here's Aurens, our 5-year old eldest son, painting oil on canvass. He's not only enjoying it but he was telling me that he wants to help me paint because my hand looks tired already (his indicator are the veins popping out of my hands, as you can see in the right). Sweet Aurens!

Of course, our other kid, Michael, was busy eating (hahaha!). He later joined in by painting the colors of the umbrellas. Nahiwi na sab an uyo, a common sight among the guys in this family. Is the artist part of the brain working in here?

Aurens and Michael have been drawing (err scribbling) since 2 years old. Here's a recent drawing of Aurens featuring Xmen's wolverine. At 5 years old, that is something to be amazed already.

I'll show you, Mama's painting later. Yes, she is painting too. And you know what, even the Yayas and their Tito Totskie are also painting. There certainly is a painting craze in 18th Avenue, Cubao. Hehehe.
