With Dr. Jondie Flavier

Two nights ago, we were at the Celebrity Bar in Old Balara, and I had the privilege of taking part in a drinking session with some of the senior Public Health officials in the land. Foremost of them is Dr. Jondie Flavier, the son of Sen. Juan Flavier, whom I first met during one of our Chevening Alumni gathering, being a Chevening scholar himself. The others include, Dr. Elmer Soriano (Chemonics PhilTIPS), Dr. Jimmy Lagahid (DOH - NTP), Dr. Joven (DOH CHD 3), and Dr. Raule? (MSH LEAD). Most of them had whiskey while Elmer and I had Cervesa Negra.

It's one way of networking and quite an effective way to gain both friensdhip and connection. Elmer reflects that as opposed to formal office-based meetings, these kind of sessions do not pressure one from committing. These also provide a venue towards discussion of anything under the sun (moon?), even the cutting edge information from breakthroughs from the WHO.

Former DOH secretary, Dr. Quasi Romualdez, was supposed to be there. He preferred to be somewhere near Manila. The next session will be there and Jondi told us (Elmer and I) to practice having whiskeys!
